Douglas C. Johnson, Executive Director

A Bloomington-Normal native, Doug graduated from Normal Community High School in 1983 and Illinois State University in 1987.  He holds a Masters degree in Studio Art from ISU, where he was a recipient of the Elizabeth Stein Scholarship and a Friends of the Arts talent grant.  He earned a Master of Fine Arts degree in painting from Northern Illinois University in 1992, where he was awarded Best of Show in the Student Annual exhibition.  He has exhibited at Gwenda Jay-Addington Gallery and the Peter Miller Gallery (both in Chicago), Illinois Wesleyan University and at the Chicago International Art Expo.  His artwork has been published in Better Homes and Gardens and in the Chicago Tribune Sunday magazine. Doug has taught at Illinois State University, Northern Illinois University, Judson College, Waubonsee College, Ray College of Design, the Rockford Art Museum and Heartland Community College.  He currently serves on the Program Committee for the Illinois Arts Alliance and is a past board member of the McLean County Dance Association and the Heartland Jazz Orchestra.

   

 

Alison J. Hatcher, Curator

Alison has been Curator since 1997. She has a degree from Carleton College in Minnesota and has been involved in arts administration for 21 years. She previously worked at The Yale Center for British Art, The Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, Harvard University Art Museums, and The Gund Collection in Cambridge, Ma.
 

   

 

Tony Preston-Schreck, Education Coordinator

Grown within the wooded Mackinaw River corridor, Tony completed both his Masters in Communication (emphasis on Media Studies and Semiotics) and Bachelor of Fine Arts (Silversmithing) at Illinois State University.  He comes to MCAC with a diverse teaching background spanning both disciplines and a particular excitement for community education.  Tony is a practicing artist focused upon uniting his academic and artistic careers into an art that is experiential, interactive and fun. 

   

 

Jamie Hand, Administrative Assistant

Jamie is a 2007 graduate from the Illinois State University English department and has been working with the McLean County Arts Center since January of 2008. She has previously served in various roles around town, working for the ISU Honors Program, YWCA, Unit 5, and The Children's Foundation. Originally from Danville, IL, Jamie lives in Bloomington with her husband, Andy, and their puppy, Isabelle.

 

   

Benjamin Gardner, Preparator

Benjamin Gardner completed his MFA at Illinois State University in 2005. He has been preparator at MCAC and was a visiting professor at ISU’s School of Art. Gardner is returning to the MCAC as preparator this fall and will continue to teach Life Drawing at ISU.
